The story and short description
of
PurPur
Background | ||
Brainstorming sessions in New York City during the 2001-2002 period initiated the idea to start a smoke-free coffee-juice-wine bar, with jazz concerts, in Leuven. John SCHROOTEN and Karen CHRISTIAENS, old friends and both engineers, opened PurPur in July 2004, in a historic town house in the city center of Leuven. They renovated the building and designed the interior looks of PurPur.

PurPur is a smoke-free coffee-juice-wine bar. It has its own coffee blend, roasted by a small artisanal coffee roaster. A variety of bulk teas from different regions are served. There is a wide selection of juices: fair trade, organic, fruity waters, freshly squeezed citrus or home-made smoothies. On a regular base the different wines available by glass change. On weekend there is a brunch menu ranging from egg-dishes to French toast and bagels. Toasted ciabattas as well as healthy sandwiches can be chosen during lunch. Warm dishes, with a profound world-taste, are changing frequently. PurPur works as much as possible with local produce, organic and fair trade products. Two-weekly life jazz music is played during Sunday brunch. WiFi is available. Please come to relax and enjoy PurPur. Purr purr ...

PurPur has been used as setting for a comedy show (television) in July 2004. Every year in spring PurPur takes part in "Literaire Lente". A book event whereby 24 novels are available for the customers to get a glimps (or to read the whole book). Within this frame the author Jan Dheedene (Fraude in Shanghai, Van Halewyck, 2006) came to PurPur to read some extracts out of his book on 29th April 2006. |
